For us, choosing the American Bulldog was never simply about appearance. We were drawn to the breed because of the combination of strength, athleticism, loyalty, courage ,character even the goofy personality and because they are allround dogs!

 

The American Bulldog is a powerful and capable working breed, but at the same time deeply devoted to its family.

​​​A well-bred American Bulldog should be confident, stable and willing to work, without sacrificing the qualities that make it a wonderful companion and guardian. We appreciate a dog that is physically capable, mentally strong and functional, a dog that can move, work and live an active life without being exaggerated. 

 

A Breed With a History

The American Bulldog descends from working bulldogs brought to the American South by immigrants. These dogs were valued as versatile farm and working dogs, used for tasks such as catching and controlling livestock, protecting property and helping farmers manage their land. Over generations, breeders developed dogs suited to the demands of American farm life. The breed was never created simply to be a show dog. Function, courage, athleticism and the ability to work alongside people were fundamental parts of its development.

 

The American Bulldog we know today is therefore the result of generations of working bulldogs shaped by different breeders and different breeding goals.

 

Classic & Standard , Johnson and Scott
Johnson and scott refer to two influential American Bulldog bloodlines, developed by John D. Johnson and Alan Scott. Their breeding programs played a major role in shaping the two main types commonly assosiated with the breed today. 

The heavier Classic/Johnson type and the more athletic Standard/Scott type.​

Although they share the same breed history,

the two types developed along somewhat different lines and have distinct characteristics.

 

The Classic type is generally heavier-boned and more substantial, with a broader head, stronger bone and a more powerful overall appearance. The type is often associated with the Johnson line and dogs descended from or influenced by these bloodlines.

Johnson refers to a specifik bloodline developed by John D. Johnson, Its not a general term for the Classic/Bully type!

 

The Standard type is more athletic and more performance-oriented, with a longer muzzle and a more streamlined build. The Standard type is strongly associated with the Scott line and its descendants.

Scott refers to a specifik bloodline developed by Alan Scott- Its not a general term for the standard type!

 

In reality, many American Bulldogs today contain influences from both types , Called hybrid. There are considerable differences between individual bloodlines. For us, however, the distinction between Classic and Standard is important. We have chosen to focus on the Classic American Bulldog and to work with bloodlines that preserve the characteristics we believe define the type.

 

We are not interested in simply producing the biggest or heaviest dog possible, we are not interested to change the breed or make it modern, its important to keep the old school type and as much as possible not involve standard or hybrids in our pedigrees. 

The American Bulldog is a true "all-rounder" 
They are great for tracking/scent work, Weight pull, working activities and different dog sports.
They can also be very succesful in sports such as bite work, long jump, power pull and other strength and performance sports.

They are strong, driven and eager to work, but they can also be happy simply being part of the family.

The American bulldog is its own breed. It is NOT an American Bully,

and it should NOT be associated with the American Bully in any way!

​​​​​Our Bloodlines
Our breeding program is built around carefully selected American Bulldog bloodlines, with particular appreciation for the old working foundations behind the Classic type. We have a strong interest in the old school -bloodlines and in preserving dogs that retain the characteristics associated with the traditional Classic American Bulldog. Our own dogs also carry bloodlines connected to Great White Kennel and Von Avalon lines that have played an important role in our journey with the breed.

 

We have traveled to Germany our self to spend time with several dogs from the Avalon-lines.

 

Breed Standards

There are several registries and organizations associated with the American Bulldog, and standards may differ between them. We primarily refer to the NKC and ABNAS standards when discussing the breed and the type we strive to preserve.
